There’s something magical about Thanksgiving in New York City—the crisp air, the towering floats, the thousands of voices cheering in unison. But behind the scenes of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a different kind of magic unfolds. This year, Cheer4Today had the privilege of meeting the dedicated performers of Spirit of America.

Since 1986, Spirit of America has brought energy and passion to the parade. What started as a small group has grown into a powerhouse, with approximately 1,200 performers, including both cheerleaders and dancers. Their leadership—Laura Davis, Roger Hayes, Afton Fox Beadles, and Marshall Bradley—ensures a seamless and spectacular show.

Becca, a dedicated staff member, shared what she loves most about SOA:

"It’s the people and the magic of Parade Day. Every year, I reunite with some of my best friends. We come from different places, but for one week, we’re together again. And then there’s the parade itself—the moment when you look up and see thousands of faces in the windows, waving, cheering. That’s the kind of magic you never forget."

At the After Parade Celebration, we met Leslie, Na’Ryah, Carly, Brooklyn, and Kait, who beamed with excitement. Brooklyn shared how the experience wasn’t just about performing—it was about being inspired by those around her. Even the chilly weather couldn’t dampen their spirits.

Spirit of America isn’t just a performance group—it’s a family and a legacy. And as we look ahead to 2025, we can’t wait to see them light up the streets of New York once again.
